I'm Kyran John, founder of Foreign Kollective. This started during the pandemic, shooting the food I was cooking at home, and became a Brooklyn studio that's now shot 500+ restaurants and brands across NYC, NJ and Philadelphia.
Foreign Kollective started the way a lot of things did in 2020, at home. I was cooking, shooting the food I made, and posting it. Then I got the chance to shoot for DoorDash, UberEats and Instacart, and something clicked: when people can see exactly what they're about to order, they order more. That wasn't an art project. That was a real market.
Somewhere around my 100th DoorDash shoot, I stopped waiting and went out on my own, to build a business that helps restaurants and brands grow through imagery that actually converts. Not photos that just look good. Photos that turn people scrolling into real, paying customers.
Here's what most businesses miss: with food photography, the photo is only half of it. The other half is how you use it. I kept watching great shots go to waste, sitting in a folder, buried on a delivery app next to a blurry phone pic, or never making it to the feed at all. The problem was never the photography. It was everything that happened, or didn't, after the shutter.
So I built a team to handle all of it. Stylists Emma and Destine make the food look impossible to walk past. Jabari C runs marketing, so the work gets deployed where customers actually buy. And Emptage Media handles video production that's second to none. One crew, one system, from the shoot to the feed.
Every shot list starts with a question: what is this frame supposed to sell? Menus, apps, ads, feeds, we shoot for the destination, not the portfolio.
We bring the lighting and styling to you across NYC, NJ and PHL, so the food is real, fresh, and unmistakably yours.
Audit 360 diagnoses the gaps, the shoot fills them, and deployment makes your menu, site and apps finally look like one place.
Most clients start with a shoot and stay on the engine. Monthly content and reporting keep new customers finding you.
